Delta Refund Policy
According to Delta, you may or may not be entitled to a refund. The truth is that it depends on the type f ticket that you bought, when you purchased it, and where you purchased it.
Generally speaking, you can cancel your ticket within 24 hours after buying it and get a full refund.
In case the fare is non-refundable, as it happens with most economy fares, and you already bought the ticket more than 24 hours ago, the fee for an exchange of the ticket varies. You can expect a fee around $450 for international flights, and between $200 to $300 for domestic flights.
As soon as your ticket with Delta is canceled, you will get a travel credit issued in your name, and it is valid for one year. When you buy a new ticket, the change fee will then be assessed.

One of the things that you should do is to inform Delta before departure even though you may have already canceled the ticket. This is important to ensure that you get your travel credit since it isn’t automatic. So, unless you warn them before departure, they will assume that you just didn’t show up and won’t issue you any travel credit.
In case you bought your Delta ticket through an online travel agency or a travel agent, the procedures are a bit different and the fees are a lot less expensive. You can expect to pay a fee between $25 and $100 per ticket.
#1: Delta Refund Policy On Regular (Non-Award) Flights:
You can cancel and get a refund of any ticket that you buy from Delta within 24 hours of purchase, up until 11:59 pm.
In case you bought an economy class ticket and you chose to pay less and not have the refundable option, you won’t be able to get any refund.

In case you chose to pay a bit more, you can get a refund from Delta. As soon as you cancel your ticket, you will be issued a travel credit that is available for 1 year.
It is only when you use your credit that you will pay the assessed change fee that varies depending on different factors including the domestic vs international flights, among others. In addition, you will still need to pay for the difference between the original ticket cost and the cost of the new flights.
There is an exception to this rule: whenever there is a death of a passenger, the traveling companion, or an immediate family member, Delta will issue you a refund as long as you provide the death certificate to the company.
#2: Delta Refund Policy On Award Flights:
Just like what happens with regular flights, Delta will allow you to cancel your ticket within the next 24 hours after purchasing it. This way, you will be entitled to get a full refund. However, for any other changes outside this period of time, you can still change or simply cancel your ticket as long as you do it up to 72 hours prior to departure. In this case, Delta will charge a fee of $150 for the redepositing the miles again into your frequent flyer account.

#3: Delta Refund Policy On Delays Or Scheduled Changes:
Under certain circumstances, you can get a complete refund from Delta, even if you bought a non-refundable ticket. These include:
- Flights that are canceled, diverted or delayed more than 90 minutes or that will result in missed connections.
- Flights whose schedules are changed by Delta by more than 90 minutes or that will result in missed connections.
In case you want to get a refund, you will need to request it to Delta directly. If you don’t do anything, the company will try to re-book you on the next available flight.
